Year 3 – History Off The Page Day
This half-term our Topic will be ‘Gods and Mortals’ with a focus on Ancient Greece. We are very excited to be welcoming back ‘History Off the Page’ who have completed a number historical days for the school.
This year, ‘History Off the Page’ will be putting on an Ancient Greek day on Friday 8th March 2020. We are asking for a contribution of £5.00 per child, this will cover half of the cost of this experience and the other half will be funded by the school directly. Please complete the attached form and return it to the office with payment by no later than Friday 7th February 2020. If we do not receive enough contributions to the cost of this event it will not be able to take place.
On this day your child will, through role-play, experience life as it would have been living in the year 490 BC at the time of the Battle of Marathon, using authentic tools and materials whenever possible to learn skills as apprentices in a wide variety of workshops. As the day progresses, the children will get involved in the issues of the time, with the chance to participate in a range of cross-curricular activities. By the end of the day they will have a really good idea of how it felt like to be a Greek citizen at this essential date in history, which led to the rise of Athens as a major power in the ancient world.
To enhance the children’s learning, the company suggest that the children come dressed in a Greek costume. Attached are ideas and suggestions about how to create this. Please do not spend a lot of money on a costume.
To make this day a success we do need parental support throughout the day. Therefore, if you are interested in helping out on the day then please contact Mr Hodgson or Ms Kerfoot via Class DoJo.
